LIVE from Gorilla Pavilion

Since 2005 we have monitored a group of western lowland gorillas in Prague Zoo. Richard, Shinda, Kijivu, Moja and later on Kamba and a baby Tatu were observed by several cameras non-stop.
The main aim was to confront the behaviour of gorillas with the behaviour of human beings. Another goal was to bring relevant information about apes and to contribute to the conservation. And unexpectedly we managed to successfully also acquire very valuable material for scientific research.
The gorillas from Prague Zoo have become celebrities, which crowds flock to see. We were witnesses od unexpected situations - arrival of a new female gorilla and establishment of pecking order (hierarchy in the group), luckless and successful birth of a gorilla baby, unbelievable hearty care gorilla mother Kijivu of her baby Tatu and so on…

The Revealed
Partners of Year of the Gorilla.
The Revealed was a project of Czech Radio. It was a parody on Big Brother, where contestants were not humans but Western Lowland Gorillas from Prague Zoo. The aim of the project was to inform public about gorilla's way of living and a need of their protection. The show is over, but activities of The Revealed team continue - we develop conservational activities in central Africa.
All funds raised on this blog will benefit gorilla conservation projects. Look into the donation box. You can support our efforts also by buying some of the product from our e-shop.
We have already supported primates sanctuary Limbe Wildlife Centre, educational project on the north of Dja Reserve in Cameroon. We published Book of Gorilla Fairy-tales which was distributed free of charge into cameroonian schools and which should help to increase awareness of conservation.
We prepared also an audio recording of these fairy tales. The CD "Histoires de Gorilles" will be broadcast in cameroonian Radios.
